Finally, Justice was served today for Walter Scott and his family. Former South Carolina officer Michael Slager was sentenced to 20 years behind bars today after shooting Walter Scott, who was unarmed in the back following a traffic stop.
If you don't remember, Michael Slagger took a plea deal.
Under the terms of the plea agreement announced in May, Slager pleaded
guilty to one count of violating Scott’s rights under color of law,
and prosecutors said they would push for a judge to apply sentencing
guidelines for second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Slager
could have faced a life sentence, but prosecutors had said as part of
the plea deal that they would recommend that his sentence be reduced due
to his “acceptance of responsibility,” so long as he did not later seek
to minimize that acceptance.
During the trial Michael Slager of course testified that he was in fear for his life, that Walter Scott was coming towards him, which is a total lie if you saw the video that can be found on YouTube.
Walter Scott family just spoke out and called the sentencing "Historic", and you can see their complete reaction by clicking here
Here's my final thought;
We all know there are good police officers, however we also know there are alot of bad police officers and this is why we have the problems we have. There have been many acquittals that shouldn't have ever happened but it did and the world cried, we hurted, and we protested but all we got in return is "Blue Lives Matter", even from some African-American police officers, which is even more sad. Hopefully this sends a message to all police officers. You cannot kill just because you can. Just like Blue Lives Matter, so does African-American Lives. People say, well if you don't want to be killed, don't commit a crime. It doesn't work that way when it comes down to human being like Philando Castile who was shot and killed, and for sure didn't pose a threat. Or someone who was selling loose cigarettes and although he resisted arrest, there were enough officers who successfully had him detained, and not to mention in a choke hold. Eric Garner clearly had his hands up in the air and repeatedly stating that he could not breathe.
