A white man confronted a black female swimmer at a ritzy California
hotel’s pool on Monday, questioning whether she bathed before taking a
dip, according to video of the incident.
The man insisted he was perfectly within his rights to ask such an
intrusive question at the Westin Hotel in Pasadena, footage posted
Wednesday by the woman, Texas resident Carle Wheeler, showed.
“I simply asked them if they’d showered. I’m sorry,” the man explained to Wheeler and hotel staffers.
Wheeler said there were multiple guests at the pool but she and her
daughter were the only black people there and the only ones asked.
She also said the man claimed to be a health inspector.
“I’m tired of getting in pools people consider baths,” the man said. “Google it. Google the diseases in pools.”
The hotel staff appeared to take the woman’s side, with one of the female employees calling the man’s question “inappropriate.”

The sad part, the hotel already confirmed that the man in the video is neither and employee nor a health inspector.
They also sent Cruz a statement that reads,”In light of recent
events, we feel it important to share that we do not condone the
comments or behavior directed toward our pool guests. The safety and
security of our guests is our top priority, and we strive to maintain an
environment where our guests feel welcome and are treated with equal
respect and attention from our team. ”
The hotel told Cruz that the woman’s stay was comped. They also said the man is not allowed to return.
