Benny Harlem The Alleged Fraud, The Real Way To Grow Your Hair

This topic is definitely out of the ordinary for my blog but in a way it's not. I am only looking out for my community and most importantly African American women who were taken advantage of by this man by giving into false hope when it comes down to hair growth. Yes it's true that African American women can grown long pretty hair, there are many of us out here with long hair although we still wear wigs, sew-ins, etc for whatever reason. If you don't know the story about Benny Harlem he's quite popular in the African American community after he started posting pictures and videos of him and his daughter long beautiful hair. However as of recently it is now being reported that not only is that not their real hair but the little girl is not even his daughter. Worst of all those expensive hair products he's selling is not even his product, it's someone else product with his label on it. So far Benny Harlem have not addressed anything other than bizarre claims of him being bitten by a spider and almost dying and basically being no where to be found. He even made it to RIPOFFREPORT.COM. The more I look at his pictures the more it does look photoshopped and airbrushed to the max. The video of him playing with his daughter hair you can clearly tell her hair is not real. It's really sad.

The sad part he was selling his hair products for $200-$400, which is ridiculous. You have to be really desperate to pay that amount in the first place. So how do I grow my hair?

CASTOR OIL

The only brand of Castor Oil you should be buying is from Sunny Isle.  It's 100% natural with no salt added. It's The Original Authentic Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I use it and it actually works well. I apply it twice a week to my scalp after a much needed hair wash. After I apply it to my scalp I give myself a 2-3 minute scalp message to make sure the oil covers my entire scalp. I then apply the oil to my edges and then I put on a heat cap for an hour. After the hour is up I usually do a protective style of either two french braids or jumbo box braids for the week.  The styling is up to you.

You can buy it by clicking below:

Castor oil works and with patience and consistency your hair will definitely grow. It's best to buy an applicator bottle to apply the oil. Any Castor Oil Works but I found Sunny Isle the actual Authentic Oil to work quicker with consistency and proper distribution.

ARGAN OIL

If you're not a fan of runny oils all I can say is don't be so heavy handed with this oil. I use Argan Oil for my ends and for my actual hair instead of scalp. After a week of using Argan Oil I noticed I had little to no breakage and very little shedding.

NOTE

Because this oil is very runny I would recommend you avoid adding this oil to your hair when it's wet. You want to wait until your hair is near dry.

COCONUT OIL

I used Coconut Oil in the past but had to stop using it because it made my hair itch like crazy, this was even with 100% raw organic, my hair still itched and I developed flakes. So if you're going to use this oil just be aware. Despite the itching and flakes I did see some hair growth but unfortunately I had to stop using it, but it does work for hair growth.

FAQ

Am I natural or relaxed? I am relaxed with no regrets. When it comes down to relaxing it's everyone personal choice. I relax my hair twice a year. If you're relaxing more than that, please stop. Also you should NEVER EVER relax your ends or leave it in for more than 15 minutes. Always use a wide tooth comb and detangler brush.

What Shampoo do I use?  I use V05 Shampoo & Conditioner, that's right. It may be $1.00, but please do not underestimate V05 products! I've been using it since I was a kid thanks to my mom, and I now use it as an adult and still love it.

Do I blow dry and/or flat iron my hair? I blow dry my hair once in awhile, but I do not flat iron my hair.  I only blow dry my hair to check my hair length.

How long is your hair? My hair is down my back past my shoulders to where my bra hooks. I never measured my hair, but I guess it's time.

How do you style your hair? I wear box braids or a pony tail only. I don't wear wigs, sew-ins, quick weaves, etc.  My goal is to grow my hair to by elbows.

How do you wrap your hair at night? I wear a silk scarf and I wish it twice a week because of the hair oils.

How often do you wash your hair? I wash twice a week with warm water. I let my hair air dry rather than blow drying. If I have box braids in then my hair gets a good washing once I take my hair out. I usually leave my box braids in for 2-3 weeks.

TIPS**

  • Do not give into "dry shampoos" if you have black hair you need to wash your hair with water and shampoo.
  • Stay away from flat irons and hot combs.  In my opinion it pulls out your hair.
  • If you're going to relax your hair you should only relax a maximum of twice a year. Every 4-8 weeks is ridiculous. Do not relax your ends, and do not leave in for no more than 15 minutes.
  • Whether you're natural or relaxed, always use a wide tooth comb and detangle brush. Stay away from thin combs, it will pull your hair out.
  • Yes clipping ends is good, but you don't always need to clip! Some women have a habit of over-clipping their ends. I clip my ends usually once a month and I don't clip alot off.
  • Braids are great for encouraging hair growth.
