Charlottesville Ellects First Black Mayor

What an historic election in Charlottesville, VA! The city has named Nikuyah Walker as its new leader on Tuesday after deadly chaos erupted during a white nationalist rally. Charlottesville City Council members approved Nikuyah Walker's appointment by a 4-1 vote. Walker was sworn into office on December 29.

Walker, who replaced mayor Mike Signer after calling for his resignation, was one of two new council members elected in November.

Huge Congratulations to Nikuyah Walker. She wants to change how City Council meetings are run. She also spoke about changing the amount of time people are allowed to speak, which is definitely something that is needed, ensuring everyone is heard during those meetings, she said on Tuesday night.

This right here is a beautiful thing and I hope to see a big change in Charlottesville, a positive one atleast. While hatred probably wont go anywhere, we can move forward as a country as long as we continue to come together in force. It will never be easy, but change can happen.
