As you all may know Aretha Franklin died on Thursday at 9:50 a.m. at
her home in Detroit, surrounded by family and friends, according to a
statement on behalf of Franklin's family from her longtime publicist
Gwendolyn Quinn.
The "official cause of death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer
of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin's
oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute in
Detroit," the family statement said.
I learned as of this morning the celebration will be a 4-day event. Her body will lie in state for 2
days at the Charles H. Wright museum, and her funeral will be held at
Greater Grace Temple -- just for close friends and family.
Aretha Franklin's
family knows a massive turnout's expected to honor the legendary singer
-- and a church just won't cut it -- so they'll hold her public viewing
at a much larger venue, according to TMZ.
Sources close to the family told TMZ the memorial for the Queen of
Soul will be held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American
History in Detroit. The location was chosen to accommodate
the thousands expected to show up. Aretha was also a frequent visitor.
