University of Missouri Dedicates Halls To African-American Leaders

The University of Missouri dedicated two residence halls in the names of seminal African-American students as part of Homecoming activities Friday.

MU named residence halls for Lucile Bluford, a journalist and civil rights activist who won a Supreme Court ruling forcing MU to admit her, though she was never able to attend; and George Brooks, a civil rights activist who helped lead the effort to desegregate local restaurants.

The university also named an atrium for Gus Ridgel, the first African-American student to earn a graduate degree at MU.
