Black School Security Assistant Fired After Asking Student Not To Call Him The N-Word.

October 20, 2019 0
Black School Security Assistant Fired After Asking Student Not To Call Him The N-Word.

Only in America will a Black man get fired from his job for asking a racist student to stop calling him the N-word. It's truly ridiculous and sad.  So if you don't know, Marlon Anderson was fired from a Madison, Wisconsin school district High School.

Anderson, 48, said Friday in an interview with the Journal Sentinel that he was "doing a lot better" than days earlier.

On Oct. 9, Anderson was escorting a disruptive male student out of the West High School building when the student started calling Anderson the N-word after pushing the school's assistant principal and threatening to beat her up.

In responding to the abusive language, Anderson says he said the word himself in making a point to the student not to use it.

"Every type of N-word you can think of, that’s what he was calling me," Anderson said. "I said, do not call me that name. I'm not your N-word. Do not call me that."

West High School Principal Karen Boran later that week pulled Anderson aside, he said, and told him he had "an uphill battle" to keep his job. And in a letter Wednesday, Boran told parents a staff member — Anderson — would not be returning to the school after an investigation of the incident.

"As you know, our expectation when it comes to racial slurs has been very clear," Boran wrote. "Regardless of context or circumstance, racial slurs are not acceptable in our schools."

Anderson called the policy "lazy."

"You can’t eliminate racism by ignoring it — by trying to hide the word or by trying to legislate the word," he said. "What if a white student calls a black student an N-word, but doesn’t say the word? It's the intent behind what you’re saying."

Madison School District Superintendent Jane Belmore in a statement Friday said the district wants to take a strong stand against the use of racial slurs but also suggested officials will review the policy that prompted Anderson's firing.

Anderson is appealing the district's decision to fire him — a process that Belmore and Reyes said Friday will move along "as quickly as possible."

Also as of recently, Marlon Anderson was hired temporarily to work at the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County. He will serve as Director of Program Operations, in which he will manage volunteer engagement, special initiatives and teen recruitment, the Boys & Girls Club says.

I definitely wish him the best, and I hope this student is punished to the maximum that's allowed. Overall the school wants to show how strict they are.  This firing was wrong and definitely could've been handled differently in my opinion. Even if he's offered his job back, he should be careful.

Derion Vence Denies Killing Maleah Davis, Is He Covering For The Mom?

June 05, 2019 1
Derion Vence Denies Killing Maleah Davis, Is He Covering For The Mom?

In a tearful jailhouse interview with CNN affiliate KTRK on Tuesday, Vence defended himself, saying "nothing bad happened to Maleah" and "she didn't suffer."

"I would never do anything to hurt her. That's not me. Ask anyone who knows me, and they'll tell you I'm not that type of dude ... I ain't no killer, bro," he said.

Instead of sitting in jail, he said, he should be at home with Maleah, her mother, Brittany Bowens, and their children.

"I should be home with my family. With Maleah, the kids and Brittany, cooking dinner and watching Netflix," Vence said. "Nothing bad happened to Maleah."

When asked how she ended up dead, he declined to discuss it without his lawyer present, but said the truth will come out, the affiliate reported.

Bowens said she's still in shock over her daughter's death. She told the affiliate she was out of town for her father's funeral, and had left Maleah under the care of the man she was once engaged to.

"When you are in a situation like this, you start to become numb. And what do you do when you can't feel?" she said. "I just want the truth of what happened. Not some narrative that was created by somebody else."

You can read the full and complete story by clicking here

Let me just say I send my sincere condolences out to the family who truly cared and took care of Maleah. Body language is everything. Not so much what someone says. When I watched Brittany Bowens interview, all of them in fact, there's no true emotion and everything she says just feel like it's scripted. Now of course everyone grieves differently and she's not entitled nor expected to be on t.v down on her knees screaming so the world can see, however this is a public case that involved a lot of public information about her (Brittany) and Derion. Nothing made sense and the whole story fell apart pretty quickly.

At this point I feel along with many others that the mom is involved somehow. Looking back at the timeline provided, Maleah technically haven't been seen since April 26th.  This case is just really sad and it's aggravating because the damage is already done and the truth have yet to come out. It's like a game to these people (Derion & Brittany) or those involved. In the end all I care about is that justice is rightfully served for Maleah.

Maleah Davis, You Are Loved And Will Be Remembered.

June 02, 2019 0
Maleah Davis, You Are Loved And Will Be Remembered.

As balloons, candles and stuffed animals sit outside the apartment where Maleah Davis would play, sleep and grow; I can't help but to wonder why Derion Vence felt like he couldn't seek medical help if this was truly an "accident" atleast so he claims.  The remains that were found in Arkansas have been flown back to Houston, TX and are currently being examined by the Medical Examiner.

The more I sit back and think about Maleah, I wish I was a family friend. Someone who was close to Maleah and possibly someone who could've saved her from obvious ongoing abuse. Her family failed her and that's a fact. There's no disputing that. Her own mother who gave birth to her did absolutely nothing to protect her own child, and her involvement as far as im concerned is still being questioned.  No parent who have the best interest for their child will leave her child with a man she is no longer with, and just caught him allegedly cheating by sending pictures of his privates to a man.

Now timing is very important here which is another reason why many of us feel the mother is involved, but of course everything we say is just "allegedly" since we have no proof. So what im about to say is completely my opinion with some facts sprinkled in. What I do know is a fact is that Brittany Bowens flew out the sameday her daughter went missing. What is also a fact is Brittany Bowens attended her Father burial on May 1st, and returned May 3rd. She did not attend the actual Funeral. Another fact, Maleah wasn't reported kidnapped until May 5th. It's so much we don't know that im sure Law Enforcement does, and if we're all on the same page I expect the mother to be charged with something. I highly doubt it'll be Murder, but something on the lines of Neglect/Child Abuse.

All I know is Maleah Davis is so loved and cherished by many. From her smile and innocent personality we will get justice for her and make sure all those involved will be brought to justice. No one will escape prosecution and no one will cheat the system.

The Maleah Davis Case & The Finger Pointing

May 22, 2019 0
The Maleah Davis Case & The Finger Pointing

"I really believe either she has something to do with it, like he's been set up in some type of way," says Joe Vence Sr., father of suspect Derion Vence.

Calling his son innocent, the father of Derion Vence, the only suspect in the case of missing Maleah Davis, spoke out from his home in St. Louis.

In an interview with the IckedMel YouTube Channel run by Melvin Cedeno, Joe Vence Sr. admits his son's story of being attacked and kidnapped while checking a tire sounds far-fetched, but he is asking the public to hold back judgement.

"Yeah, I believe my son is innocent and I believe his story," Joe said. "Derion had those kids most of the time, he's the one who took care of the kids."

Vence says his son was the most responsible adult in Maleah and her two brother's lives, doing all the daycare drop-offs, most of the pick-ups, helping them with developmental delays and raising Maleah like his own.

He says the little girl's mother, Brittany Bowens, is a liar.

"I really believe either she has something to do with it, like he's been set up in some type of way," Joe said. "I know he didn't do anything to her because he loves her. He's been taking care of her since she was like 1-year-old."

You can read the full and complete story by clicking here.

The problem with this story is the inconsistencies from both Brittany Bowen and Derion Vence.  From the beginning I personally believe both knew exactly what happened and Maleah was no longer alive. Brittany wasn't concerned about her daughter being found alive. Her body language and overall emotion was those of a person who had to force it but knew the truth and was dealing with guilt at the sametime. Just like when the car was found, her reaction was very forced. Brittany remained quite and lets just say if she truly did believe her daughter Maleah was kidnapped, she never once got on t.v and pleaded with the so called "kidnappers" to return her daughter safely. Both are guilty and both are responsible.

Raniya Wright Mother Complained About Bullying Before

April 08, 2019 0
Raniya Wright Mother Complained About Bullying Before
Still reeling from the sudden death of her 10-year-old daughter, a South Carolina mom said she complained about her child being bullied multiple times before she died after a fight with a classmate at school.
Raniya Wright, a fifth-grader at Forest Hills Elementary School in Walterboro, South Carolina, died two days after getting into a fight with a another fifth-grade girl who Raniya's mother, Ashley Wright, said she'd complained about "numerous times."
"I'm very upset with the school system, starting out, only because of the fact that I've been complaining about the person that she fought numerous times to them," Wright said in an exclusive interview with "Good Morning America" airing Monday. "That's what really breaks me down and makes me question to myself why nothing was never done up until now with this happening.
"I'm thinking they got it handled, and they failed me."
Paramedics said Raniya was unconscious on March 25 when they found her inside the school nurse's offices and transported her to a local hospital. Her condition was so severe that she was airlifted to another hospital nearly 50 miles away in Charleston, where she died two days later.
A student was suspended after the altercation and the school said it plans to release more information when the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office completes its investigation. Police said no weapons were used in the fight.
You can read the full and complete story by clicking here.
Things still haven't changed. When I was in school I was also bullied and no matter how many times my parents went up to the school, nothing changed. I truly feel for this family and they did fail Raniya. I'm also surprised that no charges still haven't been filed, as they should be. I don't think suspension is enough for such a brutal attack that resulted in death.

Admissions Scandal And African Americans Who Were Jailed For It

March 21, 2019 0
Admissions Scandal And African Americans Who Were Jailed For It
Some see it as an egregious flexing of white privilege: A virtual bomb erupted this week over revelations that wealthy parents, including a few well-known Hollywood actors, bribed their kids’ way into some of the nations’ most prestigious colleges and universities in a widespread college admissions scandal.
Rich parents, including popular TV actors Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, were ensnared in the scandal after the FBI alleges they and many other wealthy, white parents took part in an elaborate scam that got their children admitted into these schools and some of them, onto very competitive college sport teams—even if their child had never played sports before.
There is a wave of outrage among the black community. For far too long, black students, who often have to work twice as hard to get into elite colleges, have been derided as “affirmative action cases.” That is, black students have simply been admitted to these schools because of their skin color and not because of their skills and hard work.
You can read the full and complete story by clicking here.
This is no laughing matter and in my opinion Black people have every right to be outraged. It's easy to charge someone but our main concern is what will the outcome be? will they get a slap on the wrist or just probation despite Black people literally being put in prison? Here's a story as an example:
Eight Atlanta educators convicted of conspiracy to boost students' test scores received stiff sentences Tuesday in a school cheating scandal that sparked an emotional debate over race, testing and the prospect of sending elementary school teachers to prison under state racketeering laws.
Three top administrators were sentenced to seven years in prison, with 13 years' probation. Five lower-ranking educators received one- to two-year prison terms.

You can read the full and complete story by clicking here.
I expect like everyone else that everyone who's apart of this scandal have the book thrown at them. Especially when taxes are involved and lying on your Tax Returns. But this whole thing have White Privileged written all over it. The difference between White & Black is we just wanted a better education and actually went to school and worked for it, while White's literally cheated their way to top colleges.

White Man Arrested After Assaulting Black Teenage Girl In Asheville, NC

January 14, 2019 0
White Man Arrested After Assaulting Black Teenage Girl In Asheville, NC
A North Carolina man was arrested on Saturday after video showed him pushing and punching a girl at a local mall as he was surrounded by dozens of onlookers.

Asheville, North Carolina, authorities arrested 51-year-old David Steven Bell shortly after video circulated on social media showing a man suspected to be him shoving a child and then punching her in the face at the Asheville Mall, WLOS reports

The video shows a crowd of mostly teens gathered outside the mall around a man who appears to be Bell. One young girl approaches him, and he responds by forcefully pushing her. As she approaches him again, the man punches her in the face with all of his man strength, knocking her to the ground.

The Citizen-Times reports that all parties involved refused medical treatment. Bell was charged with assault on a female under the age of 12 and two counts of assault on a female. It appears that Bell was released shortly after his arrest, as he is “not listed as a current inmate in Buncombe County Detention Center’s online records.”

You can read the full and complete story by clicking hereIf you would like to see the video it's also included in the link on the Twitter user page. Because we try to keep our blog user friendly as much as possible we decided not to put it on here.

Now from around the web there were a few mixed emotions. Some people saying she shouldn't have been acting grown, and others like myself just completely upset. However I think it's time parents have another talk with their children about approaching grown folks like this, especially in 2019 when Wypipo are attacking people of color. The teenager who was assaulted could've easily been shot and the man saying he feared for his life. This could've taken an even more ugly turn. I'm glad she's ok and I hope the man who assaulted this young girl is sentenced to the max. You don't hit a child like that.

Hundreds Gathered In Hopes Of Finding Justice For 7-Year-Old Jazmine Barnes

Hundreds Gathered In Hopes Of Finding Justice For 7-Year-Old Jazmine Barnes

LaPorsha Washington was embraced by family and community members before she addressed the crowd gathered at a Houston-area Walmart on Saturday, not far from where her 7-year-old daughter Jazmine Barnes was gunned down earlier this week.

"Say her name," the crowd chanted. "Jazmine!"

Washington took the microphone.

"I'm so happy to see all these faces from all over, and I thank you so much for doing this and coming together for my baby," Washington said with tears streaming down her face. "She's up there watching over all of us and making sure we're all good."

Barnes was riding in a car with her mother and three sisters Sunday morning around 7 a.m. when a man in a red or maroon pickup truck drove up next to their vehicle and opened fire.

Washington, 30, was shot in the arm, while Jazmine's 6-year-old sister was hit by shattered glass. Jazmine's two teenage sisters were not harmed.

"I'm telling you, every time I see one of y'all reach out for me, I can hold my head up," Washington said Saturday. "I can get up in the morning."

"I just want to thank everybody for coming out and celebrating, and supporting this homegoing with me," she added. "And I say this is a very special homegoing, because I got a beautiful angel up there watching over me."

White Cincinnati Police Officer Calls Black Woman The N-Word, And Is Not Fired. Black Cop Also Used It.

January 04, 2019 0
White Cincinnati Police Officer Calls Black Woman The N-Word, And Is Not Fired. Black Cop Also Used It.

Dennis Barnette, a white police officer from Cincinnati who used a racial slur while addressing a Black woman he was trying to arrest, has been suspended from police duties, but not fired. Barnette’s actions are being condemned by several organizations, with some calling for his termination.
In an email to City Manager Patrick Duhaney, Police Chief Elliot Isaac wrote that Officer Dennis Barnette called a Black woman the “n-word” while he was arresting her at the Brownstone Nightclub in Roselawn on the night of December 22.

“This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated inside the department,” Isaac wrote.

Isaac added that Barnette responded to a call from the nightclub to assist with parking complaints. At that time, he tried to arrest the woman, but she resisted and pushed an officer. During the incident, which was recorded by another officer’s body camera, Barnette could be clearly heard using the racial slur.

Since then, an internal investigation has been launched and Barnette was placed on desk duties while his policing powers have also been suspended.

“I share Chief Isaac’s concerns regarding this matter,” Duhaney told city officials in another email. “It is unacceptable and not in line with the standard of conduct we expect from city employees.”

Yolanda Miller, the mother of the woman who was called the racial slur, is on the executive board of the Cincinnati NAACP.

THE LATEST

Barnette has not yet faced official discipline. He has been restricted to desk duty pending an internal investigation.

Hill was officially reprimanded after the September incident which was the result of normal police investigation, not an outside complaint. His police powers have now also been stripped as his violation is reassessed.

So neither officer is working out on the streets.

The Cincinnati Police Department's Manual of Rules and Regulations states: "Members of the Department shall not express any prejudice concerning race, sex, religion, national origin, lifestyle, or similar personal characteristics."

A first offense of violating this rule would result in a written reprimand, according to the manual. Second and third offenses result in suspension for up to seven days. A fourth offense could result in demotion or dismissal, the manual states.

The Black Officer is also caught on camera using it as well which is sad. You would think the Black Officer wouldn't use the slur and would check his partner for using it. Both should be fired. I don't care if you're Black and using the slur, it doesn't mean you get a pass.

Chicago Homicides Dropped Nearly 100 in 2018, But There's Still Work That Needs To Be Done

January 02, 2019 0
Chicago Homicides Dropped Nearly 100 in 2018, But There's Still Work That Needs To Be Done

After years of reeling from violent crime and homicide epidemic in Chicago, murders in the Windy City fell by about 100 in 2018, but the figure still remains higher than the number of homicides in Los Angeles and New York combined.

According to preliminary police numbers, in Chicago, the third largest city in the U.S., there were 561 homicides between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2018. That’s a decline of about 100 murders compared to 2017.

Meanwhile, as of about mid-December, New York reported 278 murders and Los Angeles had 243.

“Are we where we want to be? Of course not,” Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson recently told the Chicago Tribune, but he added: “I do think we are taking steps in the right direction.”

While the number of homicides declined in 2018, the crime-spree continues to shake communities across the city.

In October, 73-year-old Douglass Watts and 24-year-old Eliyahu Moscowitz were gunned down “execution-style” by a sole gunman, who shot the two victims in their heads. Despite the $150,000 reward to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the man, the killer remains at large to this day.

The same month, on Oct. 8, a two-year-old toddler was shot in the neck. In a separate incident that day, 18-year-old James Garrett was shot in the back while attending a vigil. Garrett was reportedly a high-achieving high school student who hoped to attend a historically black college and become a teacher, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Last summer, a 12-year-old Michigan girl spending her summer in Chicago was fatally shot, just hours after attending her cousin’s eighth-grade graduation. She'nyah O'Flynn was the unintended victim of gunfire from a nearby party.

Police claim the decline to the murders could be attributed to the additional 1,000 officers on the streets who were recruited in recent years. The force also credits the creation of high-tech nerve centers where officers use predictive analytics and other technology to improve policing in areas where violence is likely to erupt.

Most murders, the police says, are tied to street gangs that fight for territory in the city or retaliate against rival gang members. The number of shootings fell 14 percent compared to the last year, with 2,391 shootings in the city in 2018.

As part of an effort to combat the gun crime, the authorities seized 9,500 illegal guns last year, the most in five years.

In general, Chicago’s crime rate declined 10 percent in 2018 compared to the year before, while crime such as robberies and carjackings also declined – by about 19 percent.

You can read the full and complete story by clicking here

Any progress is good progress. I really hope our people can do better. Put the guns down and pick up some books. All this violence is causing innocent people to be caught in the cross fire and it's not fair. Innocent children are dying for no reason at all. Chicago is a beautiful city and I hope this is a step in the right direction because people are tired.

Wichita Man Who Kicked Black Toddler Is Set Free, Didn't Even Have To Pay Bail.

December 30, 2018 0
Wichita Man Who Kicked Black Toddler Is Set Free, Didn't Even Have To Pay Bail.

A white man accused of kicking a 1-year-old black child in the back and yelling racial slurs in a Wichita grocery store bonded out of jail several hours after his arrest Sunday.

Now, the boy’s mother and grandmother say they fear that with the man back on the streets, another child could be attacked.

“I don’t understand: He’s out just hours after he attacked a baby,” said Yolanda Frierson, grandmother of 1-year-old Jhavii Fry.

“He could attack someone else’s kid... if he’s out and he’s everywhere,” said Jhavii’s mother, Lashantai Whitaker.

The man police arrested — Trace Riff, 31 — has a history of mental illness, homelessness, not reporting to parole officers, drug use and violent crimes, records show. He is on probation in Oklahoma for a felony meth charge.

In an interview Thursday afternoon, Whitaker recalled what happened around 7:20 Sunday morning: The family had just stepped into the Dillons grocery store at Douglas and Hillside. The 29-year-old Whitaker, who is pregnant and due to give birth in a couple months, was walking just ahead of her 11-year-old daughter, who was holding the hand of 1-year-old Jhavii. “It happened so fast,” she said.

Whitaker heard a thud. Her daughter screamed that a man had kicked her brother.

The man kicked her son from behind with his cowboy boot, causing the boy to fall face down, she said.

The man tried to leave the store but bystanders tackled him and held him until police arrived, she recalled.

The man went on a rant, Whitaker said, yelling the “N word” and saying he was a white supremacist.

“He sounded like a madman.”

Her son, who will turn 2 in June, began to scream, Whitaker said. “He’s never cried or screamed that loud” before.

A Wichita police report says the incident was classified as a case of “battery” and “resist” where the man was suspected of using alcohol. A “personal weapon,” which would include a boot, was involved, the report said.

Riff was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County jail on Sunday on suspicion of ethnic intimidation, battery and resisting police, an arrest report says.

Hours later, around 3:30 p.m., Riff was released from jail on his own recognizance, meaning he was released without making a payment. If he doesn’t show up to future court appearances, he will have to pay $3,500. Riff does not have any special bond conditions, sheriff’s Lt. Tim Myers said.

I don't even know where to start with this story. I'm still waiting for a child abuse charge to be added. This is terrible and looking at his criminal background he does not belong in these streets. I really hope justice is served for this child and his family.

Jazmine Headley Is Now Speaking Out After Disturbing Police Encounter

December 17, 2018 0
Jazmine Headley Is Now Speaking Out After Disturbing Police Encounter

Jazmine Headley, the mother whose baby was ripped from her arms by NYPD officers earlier this month, has spoken out, telling the New York Times in a new interview that she went into “defense mode” when the officers pulled her son away.

“In my head, I told myself they’re not going to let me leave,” she said. “I was so afraid. I was combative with my thoughts.”

A video of the December 7 incident surfaced online last week, showing NYPD officers ripping Headley’s 1-year-old son, Damone, away from her. The incident, which occurred at at a Human Resources Administration building in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, occurred after Headley sat on the waiting-room floor because there were no available seats in the crowded agency.

Headley said that she tried to leave with her son after a dispute with a security guard over whether or not she was allowed to sit on the floor escalated and the police were called. On her way out, a guard grabbed her arm as she tried to leave with Damone, and they all fell to the floor.

What followed was captured in the video: multiple officers can be seen struggling to pull Damone away from Headley as she repeatedly says, “You’re hurting my son.”

Though her memory of what happened is blurry, Headley told the Times, “I just remember being talked to very viciously,” she said. “It was more or less: ‘You’re going to do what I say, and that’s it.’

“I should’ve left, and I didn’t because if I would’ve left, my son would not have the things that he needs,” she said.

Headley was arrested and held at Rikers Island, and faced charges of harming her child and resisting arrest. After the video went viral, the Brooklyn district attorney dropped those charges, though Headley remained incarcerated due to separate charges of credit card fraud from a previous warrant in New Jersey.

On December 11, a Brooklyn judge ordered her release, and according to the Times, New Jersey authorities have agreed to drop the unrelated charges if Headley completes a pretrial diversion program.

Now I have seen all over the internet of people saying that would've never happened if she just would've left, and while that is true that is not the point. She had every right to be there just like everyone else. The way she was manhandled with her child in her hand was wrong, period. The only thing I agree with is things could've turned out alot differently had she left and went back another time or asked for an additional seat, etc. At the end of the day it still didn't give the police or security any right to lay hands on her the way they did.

Susan Westwood Turns Herself Into Police After Harassing Black Women In Charlotte

November 06, 2018 0
Susan Westwood Turns Herself Into Police After Harassing Black Women In Charlotte

Susan Westwood, 51, turned herself in to the Sunset Beach Police Department on Saturday. She was transferred to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department, where she was served with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for misuse of the 911 system, in addition to four criminal summonses, according to WCNC.

An officer at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department confirmed to NBC News that Westwood had been in custody but had been released. He was unable to provide any additional details.

Westwood was recorded on video on Oct. 19 making racist remarks in an apparent drunken rant aimed at Leisa Garris and her sister, Chele Garris.

"Hi, how are you? I'm hot. I'm beautiful. I'm 51. What are we going to talk about tonight? Being hot? Being beautiful? Being white? Being, my new weave. Do you, do you live here?" she said to the women before asking whether their "baby daddy" was with them.

She later referred to having a concealed weapon and threatened to take it out, but it's unclear whether she was actually in possession of a weapon.

The Garris sisters called the police, but when officers arrived, Westwood was nowhere to be found.

Marissa Alexander Campaigning For Voting Rights

October 31, 2018 0
Marissa Alexander Campaigning For Voting Rights

Alexander made national headlines in 2010 after she fired a warning shot at her abusive husband—a man who had threatened to kill her—but was denied the “stand your ground” defense because the prosecutor claimed, many critics say wrongly, she could have escaped. She was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She served more than five years between county jail and prison while fighting the case before an appellate court judge ordered a new trial over a technicality. Though she has been out of prison and free from house arrest for nearly two years, Alexander still cannot vote because Florida’s voting laws permanently strip residents of their right to vote if they are convicted of a felony. Alexander’s had to settle for volunteering with local organizations to get the word out about Amendment 4, which will overturn the law, and uses Instagram to convince people to vote yes for the measure.

“Yes, it is frustrating to an extent,” Alexander said while she watched over her 8-year-old daughter, Rihanna. “But being able to have people’s ear ... is just as valuable as being able to vote because I believe there will be a day when we will be able to vote. If I cannot be part of the civil human right of voting, I can be a part of making a difference in terms of how people view it.”

Many believe Alexander was another black victim of predatory prosecution, robbing her of her freedom and a constitutional right others died for. But her fortunes could change Nov. 6 if 60 percent of Floridians vote “yes” on Amendment 4, which would restore voting rights to people convicted of most felonies. Those convicted of murder and sex offender-related charges would be excluded.

As of now, more than 1.5 million people in the state of Florida cannot vote because of felony convictions; 1 in 5 of the disenfranchised are black. No state in the union has a higher rate of such disenfranchisement. The only recourse for those like Alexander is to apply for restoration with the state’s clemency board officials, a process local activists say is unfair and arbitrary. Iowa and Kentucky are the other states that impose lifetime disenfranchisement of voting rights unless a pardon is granted.

I have so much respect for Marissa Alexander and for everything that she's doing. Her sentence really does show racial bias when it comes down to the Florida Stand Your Ground law. I think the Law only applies to Caucasians and not people of color. George Zimmerman was able to use the defense although he was told not to follow Trayvon Martin and literally stalking him for no reason.

Sacramento Police Completes Investigation Involving Stephon Clark

Seven months and seven days after 22-year-old Stephon Clark was killed on the patio in the backyard of his grandmother’s home, the Sacramento Police Department has concluded its investigation into the shooting that led to his death.
In a media advisory released Thursday, the department said the results of the investigation had been turned over to Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. It is now up to Schubert to decide whether or not to bring charges against the two officers who shot and killed Clark after mistaking his cell phone for a gun.
The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) has completed a thorough investigation of the March 18 police shooting of Stephon Clark. Today we have submitted the results of that investigation to the Sacramento County District Attorney and the California Department of Justice for their review.

“Our role has been to conduct a thorough investigation and give the Sacramento County District Attorney and State of California Department of Justice the information they need to reach a decision,” said Chief of Police Daniel Hahn. “We have taken this responsibility seriously, and we have delivered on our promise to thoroughly pursue the facts and report them.”
During this seven-month investigation, beginning in the moments immediately following the shooting and lasting until mid-October, investigators interviewed numerous witnesses and processed a large amount of physical evidence from the scene.   Investigators also examined many hours of video from officers’ body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, and from a sheriff’s department helicopter. Additionally, a significant amount of forensic evidence was analyzed in this case.
“We recognize that this incident has had a significant impact on our community, and that our investigation had to be as thorough and as open as it could be,” said Chief Hahn. “That’s why we released more information than we ever have before, and why we took the time needed to be sure we found every fact available to us. I believe Mr. Clark’s family and our entire community deserve an accurate and comprehensive inquiry into the tragic events of March 18, and I believe we have done that.”

The department then applauded itself for the swiftness with which it released video of the shooting to the public and provided a timeline for significant events that took place during the investigation.

The department also noted that it made significant policy changes with regards to foot chases and the use of body-worn cameras in the aftermath of the shooting.

Still, there is no news of Officers Terrence Mercadal and Jared Robinet—the two officers who shot and killed Clark—being dismissed from the force or facing any type of internal disciplinary action for the shooting. The officers have still not been officially named by the department. The only reason the public knows their names is because an Oakland civil rights attorney identified them in the press.

Stephon Clark’s brother Stevante was dismayed with the department’s announcement, and took to Instagram to voice his displeasure.

The Clark Family would like to express their concerns regarding the Sacramento Police Department’s Media Advisory/News Release. Although the release mentions a thorough investigation has been sent to the Sacramento County District Attorney and State of California Department of Justice, all details have been deemed private to the public.

Astonishingly, these details have even been completely concealed from the Clark Family, which does not promote transparency in the slightest. There was no mention of specifics of the investigation, such as any forensic evidence found, the findings from the contents of Stephon Clark’s cell phone, the interviews with “numerous witnesses” that were conducted, etc.

The one-page release took time to boast that, “Releasing video of a critical incident this quickly is unprecedented, not only for our organization, but also, for any law enforcement agency in the nation.” Not only is this statement irrelevant to the investigation’s findings in the murder case of Stephon Clark, it also is an offensive manner in which to highlight the Police Department’s ability to quickly release a video of their officers killing an innocent human life.

The community has indeed been traumatized by the brutal murder of Stephon Clark, which is why the Clark Family urges the community of Sacramento to come together to put pressure on District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert to press full charges against these officers. We need to come together in solidarity in order to prevent this atrocity from happening ever again in our backyards.

P.s. Pray for grandma.

The Clark family are now calling on everyone to call the DA to tell them to press charges. You can do so by calling, 916-874-6218
